7 months on the road, a recap!

We’ve returned back to our winter home in Florida! We were on the road for 7 months and it was a great adventure! We traveled from the Cumberland Plateau across TN through West Ga and back to Florida and here we are thinking of our next adventure and when we can get the show on the road!

We escaped the heat of Florida April 29 and returned on December 3. When we watch the seasons change over time, it’s not so profound as it is when you watch them change in a matter of days. On the road back to Florida we had thoughts of how cold it was in Tn. Everything turned from a robust green to a burst of colors in every tree, and the landscapes were breathtaking to say the least. Barron tree’s had lost their leaves a month earlier, we had seen our first snow fall, nights were turning cold with freeze warnings that had us thinking of winterizing and hitting the road once again.

I would have stayed the entire winter in those mountains had we planned on it. But, the first rule of thumb when traveling is to plan ahead. If you don’t, you will be unprepared like ducks out of water. This now Florida girl, had felt at home in the mountains. It took me back to my childhood growing up in the mountains of eastern Ky. Yes, I was homesick to relive my childhood as many adults are as they age. It’s true that you can’t go home again because nothing is the same. But, you can re-experience it and make a whole lot of new memories!

I fell in love in those mountains! Yes, you heard me right. Two black feral cats stole my heart! They hung around our campsite as if to beg for a ride to a warmer place. I watched them catch mice and frolic around us every day. At one point, they actually jumped in the RV and would not get out until we scared them out! Our big fat cat had two new friends through that screen door and they visited him and us almost daily.

So, if you ever consider just jumping in your RV and hitting the road, consider this… It’s not so much the destination as it is the adventure. Have fun, slow down and experience nature, meet new friends and catch up with old ones. Most of all, don’t say you haven’t been fairly warned! You will surely get lost in time as you leave a fast paced world for one much slower as you experience life as it was meant to be.
