Day 7 summer in our motorhome

Wednesday May 05, 2010

Wow! we were up before 7am and that says a lot for us. Camping has that affect on us. We’re the kinda folks that stay up late and sleep in. Don’t do mornings at all! That home routine, but camping is a whole new us.

Well, there wasn’t much to say about this morning except that I put a large beach towel over the cabin area to block out light, no need to put of the leather cover for a one night stay. Anyway, fat cat decided to take a leap from the kitchen table, sail through the air, and land in the loft overhead… need I say he didn’t make it! I nearly choked on my coffee, spewed it out and laughed uncontrollably.

With that said, we’re pulling out of New Port campgrounds and headed to Kolomoki State Park in Georgia. Should only be an hour or so to get there.

Oh! did I say and hour or so, not! But, we stopped for gas, then lunch and cruised along looking at Georgia’s beautiful landscape. I had never really seen Georgia this way before. It’s always been traveling up or down I-75 where everything looks the same and seems to go on forever.

I am totally impressed with Kolomoki State Park! The Indian mounds are incredible and the museum is a must see! You get to watch a short movie and then walk around looking at a buriel ground and broken pottery, many many artifacts that were dug up when the mounds were escavated. The park office is built around the mound so you are actually walking into the mound. There are many trails here and one you can hike up to the top of one mound. There are water falls and dams. But, what I really thought was interestiong is that you get to pick which spot you want to camp at! We picked one right up next Lake Kolomoki! Lots of shade, a grill, a fire pit, lots of birds and squirrels and an alligator or two in the water.

Fat cat has settled down and is really layed back now. He’s no longer freakin out because his world has been moving so fast down long unwinding roads. He was a house cat that had never seen the outdoors except through the screened patio. So, if you can imagine suddenly being thrust into another dimension into a world unlike your own, then you probably have a clue what it’s been like for him so far.
