Lake Louisa State Park – Fla.

Lake Louisa is a fairly new state park ca. 1997 or so located in the former citrus-growing area near Clermont in Central Florida.  As such it’s rather barren; no shade trees here.

Freezes in the ’80s and ’90s along with citrus canker killed all the orange trees, followed by developers who snapped up the land for retirement and bedroom communities to Orlando.   Previously citrus trees stretched as far as the eye could see from the Citrus Tower in Clermont; now it’s all rooftops.

The state purchased 4500 acres from the Bronson family for the new park.

We saw quite a few bicyclists taking advantage of the miles of paved roads in the park, plus there are several lakes offering canoeing and fishing.
