• Day 8 summer in our motorhome

    Thursday May 6, 2010

Well… we’ve arrived in FDR State Park, Ga. Elevation 1,104ft. Beautiful view. I suspect fat cat had a little motion sickness since he nailed himself to the motorhome floor and didn’t move until we got to our camping spot in the mountains!

Anyway, we have a lovely spot next to a creek with mountain view. We’re settling in for 2 days of country camping.

Now, back to fat cat! Of course you knew I’d go there didn’t you? We’ve settled in, he asleep and resting somewhat peacefully, I think… His paws are twitching, all sorts of movements in his face. Kinda makes me wonder if he’s on the prowl in his sleep. One will never know. Somehow, I have a feeling I would not want to be a part of his dreams right now!

So, we’ve settled in for our first night. A nice cold glass of wine, the grill is out front, drumsticks thawing, breeze blowin through all the windows of the motorhome, didn’t think we’d use A/C of course not! Since we’re nestled in the woods, it’s more likely than not, that we’ll get to sleep in! Listening to the creek flowing over the rocks reminds me of when I was growing up in Southeastern, Kentucky! Feels like this country girl’s comin home!

It’s still kinda nice to be able to access the Internet as posting a blog when the words are thoughts and not just memories work best for me! So, yes, I love my VirginMobil Broadband2Go, way2 go!

  • Day 7 summer in our motorhome

    Wednesday May 05, 2010

Wow! we were up before 7am and that says a lot for us. Camping has that affect on us. We’re the kinda folks that stay up late and sleep in. Don’t do mornings at all! That home routine, but camping is a whole new us.

Well, there wasn’t much to say about this morning except that I put a large beach towel over the cabin area to block out light, no need to put of the leather cover for a one night stay. Anyway, fat cat decided to take a leap from the kitchen table, sail through the air, and land in the loft overhead… need I say he didn’t make it! I nearly choked on my coffee, spewed it out and laughed uncontrollably.

With that said, we’re pulling out of New Port campgrounds and headed to Kolomoki State Park in Georgia. Should only be an hour or so to get there.

Oh! did I say and hour or so, not! But, we stopped for gas, then lunch and cruised along looking at Georgia’s beautiful landscape. I had never really seen Georgia this way before. It’s always been traveling up or down I-75 where everything looks the same and seems to go on forever.

I am totally impressed with Kolomoki State Park! The Indian mounds are incredible and the museum is a must see! You get to watch a short movie and then walk around looking at a buriel ground and broken pottery, many many artifacts that were dug up when the mounds were escavated. The park office is built around the mound so you are actually walking into the mound. There are many trails here and one you can hike up to the top of one mound. There are water falls and dams. But, what I really thought was interestiong is that you get to pick which spot you want to camp at! We picked one right up next Lake Kolomoki! Lots of shade, a grill, a fire pit, lots of birds and squirrels and an alligator or two in the water.

Fat cat has settled down and is really layed back now. He’s no longer freakin out because his world has been moving so fast down long unwinding roads. He was a house cat that had never seen the outdoors except through the screened patio. So, if you can imagine suddenly being thrust into another dimension into a world unlike your own, then you probably have a clue what it’s been like for him so far.

  • Day 6 summer in our motorhome

    Tuesday May 04, 2010

Today, we pulled out of Sunny Sands, drove into a rainstorm but finally reached New Port Campground, New Port, FL. The camp ground had no electricity from the storm, and of course no wifi either! Oh well, it’s back to using my Broadband2Go air card! Thankfully, I’m still in touch with the world, although somehow,I treasure the moments without it!

Fat cat had a good day! He stayed nailed to the motorhome floor and slept most of the trip. Not a care in the world. Could it have something to do with the CatNip?

We walked around the campground and it’s a nice place, small, but lots of wildlife to see. There is a walkway from the campground to St.Marks river and the fog drifting along the river was picture perfect. We could hear the frogs all around us, the squirrels have certainly entertained fat cat!

Next stop, Kolomoki State Park in Georgia! Stay tuned…
