• Laura S. Walker SP, Ga.

Waycross Georgia was until the early ’60s where literally the ways crossed. US-82 from Brunswick to Albany, US-1 from Jacksonville to Columbia, and US 84 would take you from Valdosta to Jesup through Ludowici where you’d get a ticket and on toward Savannah.  Nowadays it’s just way out in the boonies. Fortunately for us RV-ers these are US highways, mostly four-laned, and there’s hardly any traffic at all.

Just east of Waycross off US-82 is Laura S. Walker SP. It’s big; in addition to the 44 w/e campsites the park boasts a 180-acre lake you could ski on and an 18-hole golf course. Of course there’s the usual nature trails etc.

The campsites are relatively level and it appears that some are being leveled with gravel. Some are rather soft and wet if it’s been rainy lately. This is one of those parks that at night is dead quiet. No airplanes, no trucks, no cars, just a few frogs. Nice.

Nice picnic tables and fire rings!

No wifi but Virgin Mobile / Sprint worked ok.

    Indian Mound

    I’ve blogged about Kolomoki before, I know…

Just wanted to mention how good it was being off the grid…

No Internet, no TV! Nice day for relaxing. We climbed up the Indian Mounds at Kolomoki! Walked the trails for the first time. It may have been only 2.30 miles all together according to my hand held GPS’s. But, I could feel the climb and it was great! We have been at this park 3 separate trips. This was the first time that we actually got out and explored. Now that I am in to walking 3 miles a day, I am seeing the other benefits to traveling to State Parks, there is always another trail to blaze. I will never see them quite the same again! So many opportunities for hiking, I can log another 3 + miles per day, hooray!

  • Planning or Lack There Of!

It’s now October 20th and our goal is to travel south no later than December 1st. You know, somewhere warm and sunny unlike the North Georgia mountains in the winter when everything is damp, cold, and dead! Yes, no life in anything. It’s not even far enough North to get a decent snow for Gods sake! Just  Mushy ground and empty branches everywhere!

Well, you can’t beat this place in the warmer months that is for sure! A beautiful cross between the very best warm days (not hot ones) South like in Florida! But, with a breeze to die for like you get up North in the Mountains! Saweet!

So here we are… Where to go, what to do, and where are the best restaurants south or west of Georgia’s border thats got to have good weather!

We have plan A and plan B for that! Now, can’t you just see us coming up with Plan C? lol’s

Plan A … Hit the South State line of Georgia and travel west as far as New Orleans, camp along the way, eat along the way, take tons of  pictures and experience a little warmth, no we are not kidding ourselves for sure! We know the coast can be mighty cold, breezy and even see some snow! Still, it can’t be as bad as North Georgia and elsewhere!

Plan B … When it gets to cold along the Coast, head East and South for Gods sake! Gotta be warmer there, right! Not really, we’ve seen frost in central Florida! So, should be head even further South?  Probably! Haven’t camped in the Everglades in years, bout time we go back huh? Might even stop in and visit Sasquatch!

Plan C … Still on the drawing board!

So, why “Planning or Lack There of”  We have so many plans, who knows which one if any we’ll execute! One things for certain, when it turns cold, we’re out here!
