  • Cleveland, Ga. to Carrabelle, Fl.

We blasted off bright and early from the Grove last Friday bound for Kolomoki SP near Blakely, Ga., and then on the Florida. No more cold, cold drizzle.

Since we thoroughly dislike driving on interstate highways plus driving through cities this took some careful planning. We threaded our way south between Atlanta and Athens; fairly slow going through small towns but the advantage was that we got to see those historic small towns.

Then when we got well south of Atlanta we cut across the state to the west side through Forsyth, joining US 27 south of Columbus. When we got to Kolomoki we were 340 miles and about seven hours down the road and 30 degrees warmer.

After a couple of days, southward bound again into north Florida, passing through the old town of Quincy, the Apalachicola National Forest and the worm-gruntin’ capital of Sopchoppy to arrive at Ho-Hum RV Park just outside Carrabelle. It was a nice drive of about 150 miles through lots of forests.

One thing we discussed several times was that there was almost no traffic on this 490-mile trip. We’re glad everyone else thinks they have to get on the interstate.
