Red Gate Farm RV campground just southwest of Savannah is one of a couple of campgrounds that are fairly close to the old downtown area, and a particular benefit is that the Old Town Trolley Tour bus will pick you up right at the campground. You simply can’t take an RV into downtown Savannah and I think you’d be crazy to fight the traffic with a toad.
The campground itself was once a 440-acre dairy farm, and is off US 17. The RV sites you see in the photo are arrayed around a big field and have full hookups; many other sites have electric and water. There’s a few other sites behind the treeline that are much more private and shadier.
Unfortunately the area is pretty loud, no fault of the campground. There’s a couple of highways, a railroad and all-day helicopter ops from Hunter Army Airfield. It’s just the nature of the city.
Other amenities include a big clubhouse and a picnic area pavilion.
